Empowering girls one movement at time…

To all our Single Gal followers,

I am the Volunteer Coordinator for Girl’s on the Run whose mission it is “to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.” We need volunteers for our big “It’s Cool to be Me 5K Race” on Saturday June 11, 2011 at Downsview Park. The event will run from 8:30am – 12:00pm; we will need volunteers to help direct parking, work the water stations, cheer the girls on and for various other duties.

I know this is early notice but being Single Gals our calendars fill up quickly. If you have not committed to anything on the morning of Saturday June 11, 2011 and live in the Greater Toronto Area we would love to have your support. Our goal is to have at least 100 volunteers to help out on that day.

To all my male followers and I know you’re out there (a.k.a. my brothers friends) we do need male volunteers to help with set up of tents and the stage for that day, no pressure but I know I have dirt on all of you. To my married gals bring your hubbies along and make it a family event. To my Single Gals maybe this can be a first date for you, just think how great that guy would be who is willing to help with your volunteer efforts .

If you’re interested e-mail me at hopefulinto@single-gals.com and I will send you a volunteer registration form.

I hope to see you there.

Cheers!

The SG Challenge..Oct. 3rd Clean Out Your Closet Day!

I know as single gals we get preoccupied with our love life or lack thereof and sometimes what a girl needs to do is focus on something else, and put our love life on the back burner. I am a big promoter of Girl Power; I would one day like to help young girls build strong self-esteem. This is an ongoing battle with most women, whether we are stressing over our weight, or relationship status, getting older, the list is endless and yes we will always be fighting some internal battle but it does not have to consume our lives. I hope to help girls deal with these issues in a healthy way. In the meantime, I would like the SG followers to do their part to saying goodbye to negative self-image by taking the following challenge.

I would like all you ladies to donate your “thin” jeans and other “thin” clothing; this means that outfit that has been sitting in your closet for years and you keep saying one day I will fit into that again. It’s time to get rid of it and what better way than to donate those clothes to a shelter where women are in need. I have chosen the Street Haven Shelter for women as our shelter of choice. Winter is coming and the shelter is in need of winter apparel so that is something to keep in mind when cleaning out your closets.
Here is the shelters wish list of items needed:

WISH LIST

We’re always in need of clothing and housewares for women who are transitioning to independent housing, as well as various seasonal items:

• Plants, seeds, bulbs for the garden
• Shoes/sandals, bathing suits and exercise clothes
• Seasonal, good condition, clean women’s clothing
• New socks, sleepwear & underwear.
• New or gently used towels, twin linens, twin pillow cases, pillows, blankets and duvets.
• Small household items

Let’s make Sunday October 3rd Clean Out Your Closet Day!! Please contact me at hopefulinto@single-gals.com to arrange a pickup or a drop off area for you donations.

I hope you are all up for the challenge!

World Cup Finals

Ok single ladies it’s time to hit the pubs because if you want men (not necessarily single ones) they will be out, or at least should be, this weekend. Hit a pub with a patio, as the weather is supposed to be nice and put on a cute, yet appropriate outfit to cheer on Spain or the Netherlands.

In the case you don’t know much about football (this is soccer in European talk) here are some basics:
1.Spain and Netherlands are playing in the final.
2.The game starts at 2:30 pm EST so be at pubs by 1 pm EST to ensure a half decent seat.
3.Neither Spain nor Netherlands has won the WC so they are both virgins.
4.Spain is favoured over the Netherlands but this depends on who you’re talking to.
5.FIFA stands for – The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (International Federation of Association Football).
6.Side Note: There was an Octopus in Berlin who predicted all the Germany victories and then their defeat to Spain. He’s been 100% right this World Cup, he’s apparently predicted Spain to take it all, so if you’re not sure who to vote for, go with the oracle octopus.

The above basics should give you enough to fake your way into knowing what’s going on and to talk to the single cutie. If you actually like football and want to learn more visit the FIFA website at: http://www.fifa.com.

Enjoy.

Queen B

BTW – That’s a pic of Iker Casillas, he’s the Spanish goalie, yummo indeed.

Beach Beauty Event

Hey Ladies,

The Hamilton Plastic Surgery Centre is having a Beach Beauty Event on Thursday June 3rd from 5-7 pm. Now you may be wondering why I would be telling you about an event at a plastic surgery centre because I do believe in being the most natural you that you can be. However, I was informed that plastic surgery is only half of what the Centre’s practice focuses on and the other half is on skin care and treatments.

Here is what you can expect at this event:

• Beach-perfect cosmetic surgery advice from Dr. Robert Patterson
• Glistening bronzing treatments with Aesthetician Connie DelleRose
• Botox and filler consultations with Nurse Injector Terri Clarkson
• Swimwear that suits you perfectly: Luxurious, custom-made swimsuits from Hollenbreez Swimwear
• Glowing makeup advice from Alycia Vaughan of Vavoom Makeup Artistry
• Get your body beach-ready with fitness & nutrition tips from Body 1 Fitness

Specials: This Day Only
15% off any aesthetic product or service
$100.00 off purchase of Juvederm
Botox $10 per unit

Summer is more fun when spent with friends!
Bring a pal along for an evening of beauty, pampering, and wonderful raffles!

RSVP: Call 905-572-1070 or go to http://tinyurl.com/beachbeauty

Anyway who am I to say “don’t get Botox or surgery” – if you think this will make you feel better about yourself then do it, just be sure to do some research first. I endured the torture of braces for 4 years because I was self-conscious about my overbite and I would do it all over again. I have a friend that got a breast reduction because she hated her natural FF boobs, she is now happily flaunting her C’s. I also have a friend who recently had implants and is now happily flaunting her D’s! We all have things we’d like to change so educate yourself and make sure you do it for yourself and not someone else. So if you’re interested in botox, or have been thinking about a tummy tuck (or would like a bathing suit that sucks it in) you can attend this free event and talk to Dr. Patterson to help you make an informed decision.

Here is the facebook event link for address details  http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=115112348526932&index=1

Cheers!

Dog Lovin Dude Fest

Hey Ladies,

For all you dog lovers out there, or “dog geeks” as my good friend likes to call me, this event may be a good place to meet a fellow dog lover or geek. If you live in Toronto, you may want to check out Woofstock – the largest outdoor festival for dogs in all of North America.
So ladies put on the Lulu Lemon, grab Fido or if you don’t have a dog borrow one, and head on down to the St. Lawrence Market on Sat June 13 – Sun June 14. Okay maybe you won’t meet the big buff god of your dreams with a boxer (or is that just my fantasy?), but you will have a lot of fun.

There is the Mr. & Mrs Canine pageant, Woofstock Fashion show and the Stupid Dog trick contest. Seriously is there a better way to spend a weekend?

The Ultimate Dude Fest

Hey Single Ladies,

Have we found a Toronto outing for you! This is a guaranteed outing of buffness and testosterone. So girls put on your tightest wife beater, jeans, heels and head on down to The International Centre across from Person Airport and check out the MMA Expo happening Sat June 6 – Sun June 7.

www.mixedmartialartsexpo.com

Here you get to meet some of UFC’s hotties such as Sean Sherk and Sam stout.

MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts. MMA is full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques, from a mixture of martial arts traditions and non-traditions, to be used in competitions. The rules allow the use of striking and grappling techniques, both while standing and on the ground.

Here are a few key names and terms to make you oh so cool when you’re chatting up the hottie in the Affliction T-shirt.

Key names:
Royce Gracie a Brazilian Ju Jitsu fighter won the UFC championship in 1993 by subduing 3 challengers in just five minutes.

Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell is a former light heavy weight champion with a background in Kempo Karate and Koei-Kan Karate.

Georges “Rush” St. Pierre referred to as GSP. He is currently the Welterweight Champion, and UFC god (well to us at Single Gals) if for no other reason just watch the sport for this man.

Key terms:

KO – Knockout is when a fighter becomes unconscious due to strikes

TKO – Technical Knock out when a fighter is unable or is declared by the referee to be unable (as because of injuries) to continue the fight

Submission – a fighter may admit defeat during a match by a tap on the opponent’s body, or a verbal announcement

Now go out there and get yourself a future UFC fighter …

Cheers!
